👋 I’m Mai, Product Owner at Amity!

To discover more about me and my role at Amity, read the interview 👇 below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you are from, what are your interests, what were you doing before joining Amity?

My name is Pornpawee Assawataevin, but my short name is Mai, and I am from Bangkok, Thailand. I really enjoy exploring new places! I want to work or live in as many places as possible in the world.

Before joining Amity, I was a social media content writer, but I only did it for 4 months, so I wanted to look for something that was better aligned with my skills and interests. That’s when I joined Amity, which was Eko at the time.

How would your coworkers describe you in one word?

I think everybody agrees that I am the smiley girl! I am always smiling and cheerful.

What office location are you in and what is your favorite thing about being there?

I am in Milan, Italy, and I can’t choose one thing because there are a lot of things that I like about living here. I enjoy all the little things – the weather, the culture, the people, the amazing food, and the fact that it is so easy to travel to other places in Europe.

I also adore the snacking culture in this country. What a treat it would be to have as many snacks as you want before supper! Another thing I enjoy visiting is the public park, especially in the spring when the weather is so pleasant. We can just sit back and relax while watching the dogs have the time of their lives.

What made you decide to work in the tech industry?

We live in a technologically advanced world. It's the future we're talking about. Everything I do, whether it's housework, paying bills, or browsing social media, all of it can be traced back to technology. The more I learn about it, the more excited I am.

I also enjoy aiding others and fixing their problems, so working in tech can help in solving these issues, in one way or another.

Describe a routine day for you at Amity

As a product owner, I always look forward to working because there is always something to look forward to! My key responsibility is to ensure that the product is delivered with as few flaws as possible.

My routine includes “grooming" with my team to come up with product-building solutions. I conduct a daily quick sync (also known as a daily stand up) to ensure that any roadblocks have been properly addressed. In the most important part of my routine, I hold a retrospective and planning session with my team in order to provide constructive criticism to one another, because we are continuously striving to improve.

What are some of the best things about your role? What are some challenges you face?

One of the best things is that I am able to deliver products that assist others in solving problems and achieving their goals. It gives us great pleasure to watch a customer reach their objective by using our product.

One of the challenges that we face is that the functionality we want to add in the future may become far too complicated. To come up with the best solution, all departments must work together, and this in itself is very challenging. Despite this, I enjoy working hard to overcome these obstacles.

What is the thing you like most about Amity?

What I like most about Amity is the people and culture. It is a true start-up atmosphere. People solve problems quickly without going through extra steps. We work as a single unit and the main goal is always sharing knowledge. We really want to be a unicorn, a successful start up company, so every opportunity we get to grow, we take it and always have a curious and open minded mentality.

Finally, people undoubtedly played a significant role in bringing this about. I believe recruiters do an excellent job of bringing together like-minded people at Amity!
